We know that regenerative braking and all sorts of other techno-goodies go into charging the batteries in your hybrid. But, if there were a way to help recharge them by listening to tunes, would certain songs do a better job of it? And if so, what would those songs be?
We convinced the Hybrid Cars resident music snob to take some time out of his busy schedule and help us out. So, instead of pontificating about John Prine’s heavy influence on Buckwheat Zydeco’s accordion arrangements, he put together this list of 5 songs guaranteed to juice your cathodes:
Eddy Grant: Electric Avenue
Not only does this little ditty have the word “electric” in the title, it features a bitchin’ electronically-produced engine rev. Of course, it’s impossible to rev the engine on your hybrid since it’s not even running when you’re sitting at the red light, but if you blast this song with the window’s down, you’re sure to turn some heads.
Mötley Crüe: Live Wire
This is the song that started it all for the boys in spandex. After Live Wire topped the charts in 1982, boys could wear lipstick and chick boots and still score a super-hot girlfriend. Ah, those were the days (we’ll never forgive you, Kurt Cobain). Not only will this tune ignite your anodes, you might even have a chance with Pam Anderson.
Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church Red House
The Jimi Blues album is my all-time favorite LP by my all-time favorite ax-man. Originally titled Red House, and inspired by Hendrix's first love, Betty Jean Morgan, the song isn’t so much about electricity as it is about jilted love. But hey, it has “electric” in the title and it’s Jimi, so it makes the list.
Black Sabbath: Electric Funeral
Although inventions like hybrid cars are supposed to help us save the planet, this song is about the end of the world. So that makes it ironic, which is what blogs are all about, right? Plus, this is Sabbath at their electric best.
