The EPA just announced that the Nissan Leaf will get the equivalent of 99 miles per gallon, according to the official EPA fuel economy label rating. Of course, the Leaf burns juice, not gas, so that’s why it’s the “equivalent of 99 MPG.”
At 99 MPG, the EPA figures the Leaf will cost owners about 500 bucks a year to propel, which is about a third of what it costs to drive the similarly-sized Nissan Versa for a year.
The rub (there’s always a rub)—the Leaf gets 99 MPG, but only goes 77 miles on a single charge. Can’t they just give it a bigger tank?
