Mercedes-Benz chose their über-popular M-Class platform to roll out their first attempt at a full hybrid. This is Discover Hybrid Cars, but is there a tree hugger among us who can resist the prospect of a full electric? How about a full-electric classic VW bug? I thought not! Well, hold on to your hippy hats—the folks over at Wilderness E.V. now sell a range of DIY electric kits designed to plop right into any pre-1979 Volkswagen bug.

The E-Volks kits start at about $2200 for the basic set up and run up to about $5500 for the top-of-the-line kit that’ll hit freeway speeds. They even sell complete cars if the do-it-yourself style isn’t your thing. Plus, it’s not just bugs the E-Volks works in—any V-dub based ride will do. From Ghias and vans to square backs and kit cars, any rear-engine model can be outfitted with these well thought out kits.
