Despite worldwide economic meltdowns, international oil wars, global warming and undeniable market trends, some people will just never get it. We’re talking about those petroleum burning fat fucks who continue to unabashedly drive cars that are obvious menaces to the environment. A couple weeks ago, greenercars.org put out their list of the “Meanest Vehicles for the Environment in 2010” and the results aren’t so startling. The top 4 are ultra-rare exotics that you only see coked-out douche bags  driving around Miami or LA, but scroll down the list and you’ll see the same vehicle’s that are likely sitting in your neighbor’s driveway—Dodge Ram and Ford F-250. Okay, so Discover Hybrid Cars is starting to look more like Discover Hybrid Girls, but hey, we love girls. And, we especially love skinny, hippy-ish girls who are hell-bent on saving the planet. And if these girls happen to be adorable celebrity types bumping around in hemp clothing and hybrids, then all the better! Today we present you our unauthorized, unverified, yet unabashed and unashamed look at our favorite hybrid hotties.

Well, I was gonna do another post about the exotic-hybrids showing off at the Geneva Motor Show, but then I ran across these crazy guys over at Plasma Boy Racing. For the last 14 years, Plasma Boy has been drag racing their homebuilt, all-electric 1972 Datsun 1200, dubbed the White Zombie. With a 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, sub-12 second ETs and 114 mph gate times, the White Zombie is one the fastest all-electric street legal vehicle anywhere. Check out the Plasma Boy site, they have an extensive rundown of the 14 year history of this undead tire-smoker.

The latest hyper hybrid to roll out of a storied European fast factory is the Ferrari 599 HY-KERS Hybrid concept. Unveiled yesterday at Geneva, the HY-KERS is actually just a V12 599 with a token 107 hp electric motor crow-barred into the engine bay.  And, with over 200 lbs of electro fancywork on board, the extra hundred or so ponies are pretty much rendered neutral.

Here at Discover Hybrid Cars, we’re still undecided on how we feel about Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and the other gods of performance churning out hybrids. A lot of technology has trickled down to our daily drivers through the years thanks to these legendary garages pushing the envelope on the track, and hopefully by pushing the hybrid envelope we’ll get some usable ideas for our commuter cars. After all, with such limited build numbers and the fact that those who have em rarely drive em, are supercars really the problem?

Not only is Porsche giving its “SUV” a second generation, they’re gonna make it a hybrid. Now, this leads to a couple of conundrums for the staff here at Discover Hybrid Cars. First, Porsche and SUV go together like stripes and plaids. But, thanks to yuppies with children, and emo boys at a Belle & Sebastian concert, both combos are here to stay.

Our second problem: As earth lovers, we love hybrids. As car lovers, we love Porsches. But do we want either of these interests homogenized by the other—hell no. Worrying about MPG in a Porsche and going fast in a hybrid just kinda defeats the purpose of both.

Set for unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid is the next hot high-performance hybrid. Not to be outdone by Porsche and the other hyper hybrids, this car most certainly stays true to the Lotus lineage. How true, you ask? How about 0-60 in under-4-seconds true? Late last week, Nissan announced via press release the availability of the new zero-emissions Nissan LEAF. The announcement came amid the fanfare surrounding the Nissan LEAF Zero-Emission Tour that culminated in New York last week.

The LEAF is slated to be the first all-electric, zero-emissions car for the mass-market. To make sure everyone who wants one gets one, Nissan has set up a clever purchase/lease process. First, go to www.NissanUSA.com to register your interest (50,000 treehuggers are ahead of you). In April, registrants will be asked to pay $100 to reserve their LEAF. Then, actual orders will be taken in August and the first deliveries will take place in December 2010. We can’t wait!

Three high-ranking Tesla Motors employees were killed in a private plane crash east of Palo Alto, CA today. After taking off in thick fog, the twin-engine Cessna 310 clipped power lines and crashed into the residential neighborhood at 7:55 this morning. No one on the ground was injured.

What does this mean for the green automaker? Having just closed a deal on a nearly half-billion dollar loan and preparing to go public in the near future, all systems looked to be go at Tesla until now. It looks like none of the victims we C-Suite employees (CEO, CMO etc), so the IPO should go off as planned. But, how will a company that bills itself as green defend its use of fuel-gluttonous private planes? Only time will tell.

For the record, we LOVE Tesla Motors and everything they’re trying to do. Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and the entire Tesla operation.

Okay, we were wrong. But, what do you expect from a two-bit hack blogging regurgitated articles from his garage while drunk and calling it auto journalism, anyway? Why the self-deprecation and angst you ask. Well, last month we reported that Porsche had no plans for a hybrid vehicle. And, you know what? We said thank fucking goodness. But today, Jalopnik reports that Porsche plans to reveal a hybrid 911 at Geneva. Besides making Discover Hybrid Cars look the fool, a hybrid 911 is an abomination. Sorry Ferdinand…

This image is spreading like wildfire across the blogosphere. And, it looks to be a trifecta of the greenest proportions—Tesla Roadster (full electric), Toyota Prius (hybrid) and a Volkswagen Golf (diesel). Only one question remains, was it the Toyota’s faulty brakes, accelerator or headlights that caused this catastrophe?
